NBC Sports execs on suicide watch

In NHL news, the Carolina Hurricanes have just defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-2, to win the Eastern Conference Finals, 4 games to 3.

Carolina will now play the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup final.  Edmonton hasn't been in the finals (if memory serves) since the glory days of Gretzky & Messier.

If you're NBC (which contracted for the Stanley Cup finals), you're committing hara-kiri RightAboutNow™.  Poooooooor NBC.

'Course, the opinion here is that that's what you get for foisting Will & Grace  on us for lo these many years.

I wanted Buffalo to win since they wiped the rink with my Senators. The bright side is this demonstrates why I like hockey more than baseball. It isn't the same group playing in the finals each year.

If the quality of the games matches the earlier playoffs (on OLN) I think NBC will be very happy. Hockey has become much more exciting since they (finally) got rid of the red line.

The teams' origins won't matter long if the games are good. Besides, EVERY transplanted Canadian will watch because they might finally (after 13 years) have a Canadian cup winner.

I don't even think they are paying the NHL. It's some kind of ad bartering agreement. NBC had ALL the leverage.
