What did she say that wasn't true?
ITEM: Ann Coulter, in a roundabout sort of way, referred to John-John "Breck Girl" Edwards using the word "faggot".
Not that there isn't a helluva lot of evidence to support the claim:

Democratic Party boss Howard Dean demanded that Republican presidential candidates denounce conservative columnist Ann Coulter after she referred to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards as a ‘faggot’ during a speech Friday at a national conservative gathering.[...]
"While Democrats and Republicans may disagree on the issues, we should all be able to agree that this kind of vile rhetoric is out of bounds. The American people want a serious, thoughtful debate of the issues,” the press release read.
"Republicans—including the Republican presidential candidates who shared the podium with Ann Coulter today—should denounce her hateful remarks."

In the first place, Dr. Howierd, what did Ann say that, in its essence, wasn't true?
Secondly, I might point out that you yourself aren't exactly a bastion of civil-type discourse. Y'know? PotKettleBlack™ much, Dr. YEARRRRRRGH?

In case you haven't dropped by the blog lately, I'm quite unhappy with Ann. My two blogged complaints: it reinforces anticonservative stereotypes, and (as The Malkinator pointed out) CPAC is a family event.
I'll add this: it gives liberals control of the debate. We do not gain ground by simply pissing them off (a lot of them are quite gleeful about Ann's remark, truth be told) - we gain ground by discrediting their arguments and advancing our own. (That will piss them off by default.) Calling Edwards a "faggot" plays into their hands; it draws attention toward how mean conservatives supposedly are, and away from serious policy issues. That's what the liberals want.
Also, it violates Henderson's Rule on name-calling: a political slur should refer to something that is relevant to policy, character, or credentials. Edwards' prissiness is a personality quirk; doesn't fall into any of those categories. Pick on his liberalism, his inexperience, or his courtroom ethics.
