PFW:  Shoving grandpas out the NFL door

Well, it's that time of year again - training camps all over the NFL are coming to a close, and heretofore venerated NFL veterans are finding that...well...it's still a young man's game, if you know what I mean.  Running back Charlie Garner was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday.  Former Cowboy linebacker Markus Steele also was given his walking papers by Denver.  Another former Cowboy, quarterback Chad Hutchinson, went from being the Chicago Bears' starter to the unemployment line in one fell swoop.

And wide receiver Peerless Price, after one hellacious year in Buffalo and two not-so-hellacious years in Atlanta, has been waived by the Falcons.  Word now is that he wants to reunite in Dallas with Drew Bledsoe, who was his quarterback for that good year with the Bills.  If Price signs with Dallas, say goodbye to Quincy Morgan - whom, if you'll recall, I thought would already be gone by now. (shrug) Oh, well.

Let's get to this week's PFW.  The Cowboys have their last preseason game at Texas Stadium tonight against former Cowboy Jack Del Rio's Jacksonville Jaguars.  The Jags have the Third Greatest Quarterback Ever In The History Of Ever, Ever™ - Byron Leftwich (he trails Donna McNabb and Little Mikey Vick), one of the NFL's best receivers in Jimmy Smith, a decent running back in Fred Taylor, and not a whole helluva lot else.  They are  a tough team to play, though, mirroring the personality of coach Del Rio (one of this reporter's personal favorites, from his days as the 'Boys middle linebacker) - so, while I'm expecting Dallas to pull this one out, it ain't gonna be easy.

Friday night, my Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets travel to Wichita Falls to take on the WF Hirschi Huskies.  The Huskies lost last week to WFHS, 21-53, so they may feel they have something to prove here.  This game scares me, but we'll see.

Saturday, we have the reason that this is guaranteed not to be a Perfect Football Weekend™:  Two of the teams on my list play each other.  The TCU Horned Frogs travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to get their heads handed them by the Sooners.

Bob Stoops could do me a personal favor by blasting TCU out of the water, and exposing Gary Patterson for the in-over-his-head, half-assed excuse-for-a-football-coach he is.  Then again, Tulane already did that last season when TCU, having them down on their own 1-yard line with a bowl game on the line, let them drive down the field for the winning touchdown.  Last anyone checked, OU was just a weeeeeeee bit better than Tulane.

Needless to say, it ain't gonna be pretty for the Froggies Saturday.

LSU was  supposed to host the University of North Texas Eagles Saturday in Baton Rouge.  But although Tiger Stadium didn't suffer that much damage at Katrina's hands, the game's still been postponed.

In fact, it's anyone's guess when LSU will even play a game.  That's a story I'll try to keep on top of as we go forward.

And thus ends my final post from Bent Tree Forest.  Moving day's today, and this blog goes silent until further notice - which I anticipate will be sometime next week or so.

Keep an eye on The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler for the annoucement of my triumphant return. (grin)

KORRIOTHnuqDaq Hovtay', joH'a'?

LSIK&T:  Set course for Starbase 601, Mr. Korrioth.  Warp factor 2; engage when ready.  Qa'pla!

KORRIOTHHlja'!!!

(Pegasus  shoots into warp as we fade out...)

UPDATE:  The new digs are rounding into shape.  There's no Comcast broadband here, and DSL (*hack, spit*) hasn't yet been installed, but I've been fortunate enough to locate a wireless network in range that's hooked up (Cthulu bless amateurs who've never heard of WEP keys (grin)).

The connection fades in & out (mostly out), so I'll wait until I have something a little more stable before taking Pegasus  back out.

But when I do, expect some major  crowing - and crow-eating, as it seems I owe some folks on University Drive in Fort Worth an apology. (cackle)

Who the hell cares about your moronic football game? There are americans dying in New Orleans.

Great Honkin' Cthulu™, you're absolutely right.  How could I have been so insensitive?

I think I'll quit my job, sell my car, my computers, all my other worldly posessions, move out of my new apartment, become a homeless person, let myself get mugged down in Deep Ellum, commit hara-kiri, poison myself with strychnine, cyanide AND arsenic, garotte myself repeatedly with a samurai's ceremonial blade and PUT A DOZEN GODFORSAKEN .40 CALIBER BULLETS THROUGH MY TEMPLE RIGHT MOTHERFUCKING NOW!!!!!!!!!

Naaaah.  I think I'd rather tell you to go fuck yourself.  Much more satisfying. (chuckle)

Hey GinT!

Why the fuck are you trolling blogs when "there are americans dying in New Orleans"?

Get off your fat pimpled ass and do something insead of wringing your hands and "feeling their pain"!

Now, where was I? Oh yeah!

Hey Spats! Good call on the Jaguars/Cowboys game.

I'll have to say that Del Rio has built an outstanding defense that'll shine this year.

As far as the offense goes, Leftwich, if nothing else is a "class act" in the face of the crap he's getting in J'ville. This is the year he has to "break out".

The receiver corp. is a question mark since Jimmy Smith is getting old (and double teamed) and the rest young and unproven.

Fred Taylor has somewhat injury prone as of late. (like early in his career.

Gonna be a fun season this year....

By the way, Can you believe Oklahoma lost to TCU?

"Un-beevable" ;)

The NFL can go fuck itself this year. If they think it's appropriate to showcase cocksucking hip hop bitch Kanye West on Thursday night, I'll watch college ball.

Bluto,

There is a reason I don't WATCH football anymore.

I listen to it on the radio. Much better coverage, and less annoying crap.
